The Big Boy Locomotive, run by the Union Pacific Railroad, was the largest steam engine ever built. The intricate detail of this engine was a challenge Gans could not pass up, so he and his pencils tackled this huge task. Encouraged by his train-loving brother, Gans finished the work in 1992—and gave it to his brother as a present.
